PORTLAND, Ore. Three of Portland's most beloved local companies are coming together this summer to take a significant stand against single-use waste. McMenamins has partnered with Bold Reuse to launch a full-scale reusable cup program at Edgefield Concerts on the Lawn and Grand Lodge concerts in the Grove, with Straightaway Cocktails stepping in as the presenting sponsor. Together, the three organizations project eliminating nearly 400,000 single-use cups across 46 events at both venues before the season ends. The program kicked off on May 27th at Edgefield with a concert by The Black Keys.

The collaboration is a natural one. McMenamins has spent four decades transforming historic Oregon and Washington properties into gathering places rooted in local culture. Straightaway Cocktails, a Portland-based Certified B Corporation and 1% for the Planet member, has built its business around the idea that thoughtful ingredients, quality craftsmanship, and responsible business practices should go hand in hand. And Bold Reuse has spent more than a decade building the infrastructure to make reuse practical and scalable at venues across the country. The three organizations share something beyond geography: a conviction that local businesses have both the responsibility and the opportunity to lead on the issues that matter to their communities.

"Since our early days more than 40 years ago, sustainability has been more than just an idea; it's woven into the fabric of McMenamins. From sourcing food and beverage ingredients locally to earth-friendly brewing practices and restoring old buildings into gathering places for all, it's simply part of how we operate. Replacing single-use cups with reusable ones at our largest concert venues felt like the natural next step, and we're proud to do so alongside two other Portland companies, Bold Reuse and Straightaway Cocktails."

— Renee Rank Ignacio, Marketing Director, McMenamins

A Sponsor With Something to Say

Straightaway Cocktails did not come to this sponsorship looking for logo placement. As a Certified B Corporation, the company is committed to holding itself to high standards across sustainability, sourcing, operations, and impact. From the ingredients that go into each cocktail, to the partners that support how those cocktails are enjoyed, it’s important to hold standards on all. Sponsoring the McMenamins reusable cup program is an extension of that ongoing commitment.

Founded in Southeast Portland’s Hawthorne neighborhood, Straightaway produces award-winning ready-to-drink cocktails crafted with premium spirits, fresh juices, and thoughtfully sourced ingredients. Their cocktails are available through select retailers, its tasting room and online shop, onboard Alaska Airlines flights, and soon at the brand’s anticipated full-service PDX Airport Bar.

Supporting a program designed to remove hundreds of thousands of disposable cups from the waste stream felt like a meaningful extension of the company’s commitment to create a positive impact in its community and environment.

"We're in the business of bringing people together over great drinks, and we believe how we do that matters. Sponsoring this program is a way to put real resources behind the values we talk about all year. McMenamins is the kind of place where Portland gathers, and Bold Reuse has built something that actually works at scale. Being part of this initiative felt like exactly the right move."

— Laura Heavey, Director of Marketing, Straightaway Cocktails

Portland Is Now a Majority-Reuse Region

The McMenamins partnership is the latest in a series of Bold Reuse launches that together have made the Portland metro area one of the most advanced markets for reusable serviceware in the United States. Moda Center, Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Oregon Convention Center, Portland Expo Center, and Providence Park all operate reusable foodware programs through Bold Reuse. With the addition of Edgefield and Grand Lodge, the majority of the region's highest-traffic venues now run reuse programs simultaneously.

That density matters. When reuse is available across venues, it becomes a familiar and expected part of attending an event in Portland rather than a novelty. Guests who encounter it at a Timbers match, then at a convention, then at an outdoor concert at Edgefield, begin to see it as simply how things are done here. That normalization is how regions build lasting change rather than isolated programs.

"What's happening in Portland is something we've been working toward since the beginning. When you have venues across a region all operating reuse programs at the same time, you stop having to convince anyone that it's possible. The question becomes how fast you can grow it. Having aligned partners like McMenamins and Straightaway Cocktails, two companies that take their impact seriously and have real credibility with this community, accelerates everything."

— Heather Watkins, Co-Founder and Chief Revenue Officer, Bold Reuse

Local Values, Local Impact

All three organizations in this collaboration are deeply embedded in Oregon's local economy. McMenamins employs thousands of Oregonians across its properties and sources ingredients from regional producers. Straightaway operates its tasting room, cocktail classes, and production in Portland, purchasing from local and regional suppliers wherever possible. Bold Reuse runs its washing and logistics operations locally, keeping jobs and procurement dollars circulating in the communities it serves.

The reusable cup program itself is an economic investment as much as an environmental one. It reduces long-term costs associated with single-use disposables, keeps service infrastructure local, and creates the kind of operational consistency that allows venues to plan further ahead. Bold Reuse's recent lifecycle assessment, conducted at Moda Center, found that the 20-oz reusable cups serviced at the Moda Center generate 84% less carbon than compostable PLA alternatives, meaning the environmental case is just as strong as the economic one.
